AIDS isn’t proper

It’s hard to imagine how anyone could escape reading about AIDS. It’s been in the news for 20 years, and you’d think that we’d all be aware of its correct spelling. But someone at Yahoo! Avatars missed the fact that AIDS is an acronym, not a proper noun:

Less significant, but nevertheless incorrect, is the missing comma after the year: If a date contains the month, day, and year, a comma belongs after the day and year. And the cap on anniversary isn’t right, either.

At least the sign held by the avatar, left, is correct, though the caption isn’t. Maybe the avatar creator would volunteer to do a little proofreading.
