Plural mistakes

What is it about the apostrophe that is so appealing to writers that they want to put it in every plural word they write? Case in point: An article from Yahoo! TV‘s “Primetime in No Time” where the writer misuses an apostrophe here:

    I can already tell: you love Lynne Truss.

    After reading her book, I laugh at myself for being such a stickler for misplaced apostrophes.

      I love Lynn Truss and all the little punctuation marks that are abused every day at the keyboards of Yahoo!’s writers.
