because someone else who also writes for yahoo.com doesn’t think it belongs in that word:
According to the American Heritage Dictionary, the preferred spelling is goodbye, although good-bye and good-by are both acceptable. What’s not acceptable is using two different spellings on the same page or even in the same website.
