Not-so-Fair Isle

If you have no idea what Fair Isle is, should you be writing about it? If you don’t know it’s a knitting technique named after Scotland’s Fair Isle, would you Google it before writing about it? If you’re a writer for Yahoo! Shine, the answers are yes and no.

I know editorial standards are really, really low (and possibly nonexistent) at Yahoo!, but really, can’t they do better? I know they’ve done worse. Considering that the genius writers at Yahoo! Shine have referred to the pattern style as Fairisle, fair-isle, and (horrors!) Fair Aisle, I guess this isn’t so horrible.

But they keep spelling “fair” right with not a “fare” in sight, so, you know, that’s something..

Fair enough. I just wonder what the writers think “fair isle” means and why they don’t question its spelling. I’ll give them 5 bonus points for “fair,” but they’re still epic failures in my grading system.
