Most writers follow a regimen involving steps like draft, edit, spell-check, and proofread. It would make sense that a professional writing for yahoo.com, where words are read by millions of people all over the world, would follow a similar regimen. But no. There are no procedures, no processes, and no standards for writing at Yahoo!. Anything goes. And anything — no matter how poorly written or spelled — is good enough:

It’s the French spelling. Yahoo! is too sofistikated for you.

I am a tragically unhip rube. When I read that I thought it was the worst misspelling I’d ever seen on yahoo.com. It was unimaginable to me that a professional writer would think that was an actual word. Little did I know I was reading the French version of Yahoo. Now I’m the one who feels stooopid.
