Grammarians need to pick their fights

If you’re a grammar nerd who is compelled to correct the grammatical mistakes of others, you probably don’t enjoy reading yahoo.com. You’ll read a sentence like this and be tempted to rail against the mismatch of the pronoun its and its antecedent, Republicans:”

fp repubs pick its fights

But sometimes grammarians need to pick their fights. Is that any worse that the headline for the article itself?

news gop need pick

At least the pronoun matches its antecedent. It’s just now the verb doesn’t match its subject.
