When it comes to regions of the United States, the editors for the Yahoo! front page are often confused. They forget that the East Coast is a region along the eastern coast of the country and the South is a region in its southeast corner. Perhaps in an effort to compensate for all the times they treated U.S. regions with lowercase letters, they’ve decided to give compass directions uppercase ones:
Compass directions (north, south, east, northern, northeast, and the like) are not proper nouns.
