The person who wrote this on the Yahoo! front page is either woefully ignorant of American civics or a complete idiot. Or maybe both:
The U.S. does not have a military draft; it has not have a draft for 40 years. No one in Congress or the administration is even thinking about reinstating the draft. And even if we had a draft, women, unlike young men, are not now registered for the draft.
The article that this headline refers to states:
Never before has the country drafted women into military service, and neither the administration nor Congress is in a hurry to make them register for a future call-up. … If you’re worried a draft notice is going to soon be in your mailbox, take a deep breath. There is no looming national crisis that makes a military draft likely.
So, where did the Einstein who wrote this for yahoo.com get their information? They made it up.

I love how the link makes the opposite claim from the text of the article. Classic Yahoo!, and “classic” is far from a compliment.

It is a classic mistake on yahoo.com. The writer obviously didn’t read the article or was in such a rush to write something — anything — that accuracy and truth suffered. Not that Yahoo! cares. It seems that it happens every day.

I suppose, though, that if they’re only going to draft women, it would be OK.

And you think that will happen soon?
