Just in case you thought $ meant euros, the writer for the Yahoo! front page has helpfully told you that it’s dollars:
I always wondered why we pronounce the dollar sign after the number, but write it before.
And why we pronounce the cent sign after the number, but write it after.
That reminds me of one of the more annoying things: stores will have signs reading “.99c” – which means you could get 10 of them for 9.9c.
