I’ve done a complete 360

I used to think that Yahoo!’s writers were no good at math. In fact, I thought they sucked at even the most basic arithmetic. After reading this on Yahoo! Movies I’ve done a complete 360:

360 movies

Yes, I still believe they suck at math. I also think they suck at spelling the names of celebs, like Ron Perlman.

    What’s an incomplete 360? A 359?

It’s just a way to emphasize that the person turned around and started where they came from. I think it’s a holdover from the expression “complete 180” — which would have made sense.

Of course I know what it means, but, taken literally, it’s nonsensical to say “complete.” 360 degrees is 360 degrees. An incomplete turn would be some other number. I know I’m being anal retentive, but it’s the same thing as “total” destruction and “very” pregnant.

In other words, not only is the Yahoo! writer unaware that a reverse is 180 degrees, he also relies on rote constructions like “complete 360” that don’t actually mean anything.

That concludes my rant for today.

I didn’t mean to imply you didn’t know what it means. Of course you do. And you’re right that the brain-dead writer was just parroting a word without regard to its meaning — or need.

What do you think?
