Swath’s wrong?

There really should be a requirement that before you can write for a major website focused on the U.S. market that you have mastered the English language. Just sayin’. Perhaps if the writer for the Yahoo! front page had spent another year or two in English as a Second Language classes, he or she would have been spared this embarrassment:

A swath is a wide strip of mown grass or grain, or something resembling that strip. I have no idea why the writer thought that was an appropriate word.
