They may have gotten this wrong

The writers for may have gotten this verb wrong:

fp may have got

If they’re writing for a U.S.  audience, the preferred past participle of get is gotten.

    They could have cribbed it from a UK paper, like the Telegraph. On the other hand, one can’t be too careful about things like the origin of the universe.

    (Should that be “Universe”, as there’s only one (and it doesn’t have a name)?)

    On the other hand, the only reason for giving it a name would be to distinguish it from other universes – something I find a bit daunting (as in, “Sorry, Sam, I’m daunted”).

      I don’t think the writer cribbed that verb from a UK paper. I think the writer thought it was correct; and in some locales, it is.

      Universe is still a common noun, I believe.
