That’s just sic

Someone’s trying to show off her knowledge of Latin at Yahoo! Style:

sic style

I keep telling those people to stop using other languages until you have mastered English. But do they listen?

Perhaps the writer doesn’t know the meaning of sic (it means “thus” or “so”). Or maybe she’s confused about its usage: It’s used within quoted material to indicate that the word or words preceding it appeared in the source text exactly as shown, even with the mistake made by the original author.

So, you tell me: Assuming that the writer understands the meaning and usage of [sic], where’s the error? Does she think goddesses is misspelled? Or did she just neglect to put it after worlds, which needs an apostrophe?
