When English isn’t your first language

If you’re a writer who’s not a native-English speaker, you should probably ask for a little help from a competent editor. Barring that, you should probably look up the meaning of multi-syllable words before you use them. And if you’re not  willing to do either, you could look as ignorant as this Yahoo! Style writer:

virtuosity sty

She obviously has no idea that virtuosity means “great technical skill in or appreciation of the arts.” It doesn’t mean “virtue.”
