Either nobody or everybody wins

If you’re a grammar nut, you cringe when you read a sentence containing a subject-verb mismatch, like this one from Yahoo! Sports:

plauged sports 1

The subject of the verb is either, a singular pronoun; the verb should be wins.

When a mistake like that happens, nobody wins — not the reader, the writer, the editor (if there is one), or the company behind the website.
