Time to beef up the editing staff

If you’re a writer who is still learning English, you’d probably welcome the support of a competent editor — one who’s familiar with common slang and idioms. One who will stop you from making a mistake like this on the Yahoo! front page:

fp buff up

I’m assuming the writer is an ESL student and that Yahoo! doesn’t employ editors for yahoo.com. How else do you explain the use of “buff up” when “beef up” is the correct expression?

What do you think?
